Our Favorite New Haven Restaurants
Soup dumplings are the biggest draw at Steamed on Whitney Ave., but we enjoy just about anything off the menu of this dim sum-focused gem. Whether you’re craving dumplings, sticky rice, braised brisket noodle soup, or pan-fried pork buns, there’s something for everyone to try at Steamed.
If you’re craving quality, classic Italian food (and who isn’t), the old-school “mobster theme” of Goodfellas Restaurant on State St. makes it the place to visit. The restaurant quickly became a local favorite when it opened its doors in 2005 and is still one of our favorite spots to enjoy lunch or dinner. Don’t miss your chance to try their “meatballs with salad” appetizer or the fresh mozzarella and remember – no meal at Goodfellas Restaurant is complete without sampling one of their specialty martinis!
Brunch doesn’t get much better than The Pantry. Locals and tourists alike hail their pancakes as the best they’ve ever had, especially their seasonal offerings. The pumpkin cinnamon roll pancakes can’t be beat and they offer more traditional brunch dishes to enjoy like eggs florentine, lox scramble, and California eggs benedict. Stopping in at The Pantry on Mechanic St. is the perfect way to start the weekend.
Edwards St. is the home of August Wine Bar – a cozy local spot to enjoy a glass of wine, delicious small plates and good company. The charcuterie plates are a delicious offering of fresh fruit, numerous cheese options, and cured meats. Their deviled eggs are legendary in New Haven, so make sure you don’t miss a chance to try them!
Classic Southern fare is not always easy to come by in New Haven, but Sandra’s Next Generation does it right. Sweet potato cornbread, smothered pork chops, collard greens, fried chicken, and black eyed peas are just some of the Southern favorites featured on their menu. If Soul Food is what you’re in the mood for, you can’t go wrong with Sandra’s Next Generation on Congress Ave.
